This event honours Orange Shirt Day, a day of remembrance for residential school Survivors and their families and emphasizes the urgent need to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action in Health (18-24). These Calls to Action reminds all governments, institutions, and organizations that systemic gaps in healthcare for Indigenous peoples must be addressed with commitment, accountability, and urgency.

Following the walk, the community is invited to gather at the Town Beach at 1:30 PM for guest speakers, drinks, snacks, and a community BBQ. Participants are encouraged to wear orange shirts or ribbon skirts as a sign of solidarity and respect.
This year’s events for Truth and Reconciliation Week represents the largest collaborative effort held in Sioux Lookout. SLFNHA is honoured to welcome and walk alongside eight partner organizations that are contributing to a week of reconciliation-focused events:
