To help transform the health of Anishinaabe people and communities across Kiiwetinoong, SLFNHA is striving to increase representation of People of First Nations ancestry working in the field of health care.
The SLFNHA Bursary Program is designed to support all First Nations students with their journey towards improving the outcomes of First Nations people and communities through the attainment of post secondary education.
Additionally, the Skyler “Sky” Howard Don Meshake Memorial Bursary is to recognize and celebrate students with outstanding athletic participation and achievement.
The SLFNHA Bursary Program is for status First Nations students (part-time or full-time) from any of the 33 SLFNHA-serviced communities who are entering or continuing post-secondary education.
Application Criteria
- Open to new & mature students from SLFNHA’s service area entering / continuing post-secondary education (full-time and part-time)
- Name of school/program/year of study/anticipated graduation date
- First Nations within SLFNHA’s service area, Band Name, Proof of Status
- Proof of Enrollment
- Letter of Recommendation
- Personal essay (500 – 1,000 words) outlining financial need & how they plan to use education to improve healthcare for First Nations people/communities
- Media Consent for SLFNHA to disclose the name of successful bursary recipients in promotional materials and SLFNHA recruitment initiatives
- Applicants for the Skyler ‘Sky” Howard Memorial Bursary must provide an additional 500 word statement outlining athletic participation and achievement
