Meet the Quality Assurance Department: Listening, Protecting, and Improving Care

Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority · August 2026

Behind good care is a team working to make sure it stays good and keeps getting better. At Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA), that is the work of the Quality Assurance (QA) department. As part of our Strategic Policy, Planning and Quality team, QA helps the organization keep its promises to the people and communities we serve: that care is safe, that information is protected, and that every voice is heard.

Our department brings together three areas of work: Quality Assurance, Privacy, and Compliments and Complaints. Each has its own focus, and all three share one goal, which is better care built on accountability and respect.

Quality Assurance

The QA team leads the projects and everyday work that keep our standards high, and this past year has been a busy one.

We completed our Accreditation Primer, an important milestone that shows our programs are measuring up against national standards for quality and safety. We helped design and roll out the new Compliments and Complaints Program, which you can read more about below. We continued to support the organization’s strategic workplan, helping teams across SLFNHA track their goals and report on their plans.

Much of this work happens quietly in the background, but the purpose is simple: to make sure the care and services we provide are consistent, safe, and always improving.

Privacy

Every interaction with SLFNHA involves trust, and often personal and health information. Our Privacy team makes sure that information is handled carefully and respectfully, in keeping with privacy legislation and our own policies.

This past year, that work included refreshing our privacy training, so staff have clear, up-to-date guidance on protecting personal information, and updating key privacy policies to keep pace with best practice. The team also guides how information is collected, used, and shared, and is always ready to answer questions or address concerns about how personal information is protected.

Compliments and Complaints: Launching July 27

This is the work we are most excited to share right now.

On July 27, 2026, QA is launching the Compliments and Complaints (C&C) Program, and we cannot wait to open it up fully to the communities we serve. The program gives clients and community members a clear, safe, and respectful way to share their experiences with our care, whether that means recognizing something done well or raising a concern.

We believe feedback is a gift. It tells us where care is working well, and where we still have work to do. The C&C Program is guided by our C&C Strategy, which sets out how we receive, review, and respond to every piece of feedback, consistently and across every part of our organization. At its heart is a simple belief: the people who use our services are the experts on their own care.

What you can share

The program welcomes both compliments and complaints:

      • Compliments: when a staff member, team, or service made a real difference for you. We want to hear about it, share that recognition, and learn from what is going right.

      • Complaints: when something did not meet your expectations, or when you have a concern about your care, your experience, or how you were treated. Raising a concern helps us fix problems and keep them from happening again.

Every submission is treated with respect and confidentiality, and sharing feedback will never affect the care or services you receive.

    How it works

Sharing feedback is easy. Here is what happens from the moment you reach out:

Your privacy is protected every step of the way. Your feedback is kept confidential, shared only with the people who need to know in order to respond, and never affects the care or services you receive.
