SLFNHA was pleased to partner with Ontario Native Women’s Association and the Sunset Women’s Aboriginal Circle to host a walk to end gender-based violence, joining hundreds of other communities across Canada.
The walk was held in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on May 14 and was part of the annual Moose Hide Campaign. SLFNHA staff also participated in walks in Thunder Bay and Lac Seul First Nation.
The campaign recognizes all forms of violence but notes the high statistics of violence against women, and more specifically violence against Indigenous women in Canada. It began with a simple but powerful act–harvesting moose hide and sharing it as a commitment to protect Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.
This day invites us to gather with intention–to listen, to learn, and to take a stand against gender-based violence.
