Video – COVID-19 Update – North Caribou Lake FN – April 1st, 2021

COVID-19 Update with Dr. Lloyd Douglas – April 1, 2021

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) has been notified that there is an additional case of COVID in an individual from North Caribou Lake First Nation. The individual is isolating in Sioux Lookout at this time.
Case and contact management continues and the SLFNHA Preventing Infectious Diseases (PID) team will continue to monitor the situation. We are aware that viral activity has been on the rise in the region and we must continue to remain vigilant in our efforts to keep the virus out of the communities.
We continue to emphasize the importance of deciding to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Operation Remote Immunity, the program that provides remote access communities with the COVID vaccines is coming to a close soon. However, plans are underway for a COVID vaccine program. Road access First Nations communities are receiving the COVID vaccine as well. The vaccine will: protect you, protect your loved ones, slow the spread of the virus, and help end the pandemic.
As always, we continue to strongly encourage adhering to all public health measures. This includes: physical distancing, handwashing, wearing masks/face covering in public where physical distancing cannot be maintained, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep to a single social bubble.

We also recommend that travellers self-isolate and receive a test upon return and 5- 7 days later. We emphasize the importance of avoiding the 3 Cs: close contact, crowds and closed spaces. If you have any community member with symptoms that could be caused by COVID-19, please contact your nursing station to be assessed as a matter of urgency.
