JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Team Leader, the Security Personnel will provide security for the Hostel facility, parking lot and other SLFNHA property.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct hourly checks for Hostel building, parking lot and other SLFNHA property
  • Monitor clients with protection issues as directed
  • Patrol parking lots- taking note of any suspicious behavior. May direct person(s) to leave the area
  • Call local police in regards to client/escort trespassing violation.
  • Monday to Friday after 4:30 pm/weekend, Front Reception and Front Desk coverage.
  • Assist maintenance in shoveling and sanding afterhours and weekends
  • Ensures incidents are reported to the Director of Client Services and Team Leaders in a timely manner
  • Ensuring the CCTV security system is in working order at all times, operational and report equipment issues
  • Providing maintenance checks on CCTV security systems (i.e. cameras)
  • Monitor corridor/link front, rear side entrances and emergency exits for persons that are trespassing. Make sure fire exits are cleared of obstructions and if exits are blocked, send incident report to Health and Safety
  • Working with Meno Ya Win Health Centre Security department on any operational issues that may arise as directed
  • Ensuring all security access doors are in working order and report any maintenance issues to maintenance or 24 tech support
  • Ensure lights in parking lots and rear entrance bollards are working effectively
  • Monitor fencing around propane tanks (locks, fencing is secured), report any deficiencies to maintenance, ensure gate fencing is closed and locked at all times
  • Responsible for all security exits ensuring they are clear of any hazards (snow)
  • Assist with the luggage when necessary
  • Participate in training and orientation of new staff (preferably Senior Personnel)
  • Conducting room checks every shift
  • Take out/sign out wheel chairs for client usage
  • Specialty Security – supervision of clients at times
  • As part of rounds – electrical room
  • Trouble shooting on panels
  • Take lead and give direction in evacuation process
  • Direction with contractors to ensure snow removal of doorways and sidewalks is completed when snow fall is in excess of one inch
  • Provide assistance when required and any other duties assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Security Personnel
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis
  • Completion of security training / Provincial security licensing / police sciences would be a definite asset
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis
  • Experience as a security personnel would be preferred, but full training and support will be provided
  • Knowledge of Non Violent Crisis intervention would be a asset but training will be provided
  • Ability to speak in a first Nations dialect of the Sioux Lookout Region would be a asset (Ojibway/Oji-Cree/Cree)
  • Experience in frontline Customer Service working in a fast paced environment
  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to problem solve, use good judgment, make sound decisions and remain calm
  • Ability to work independently and works well with in a team
  • Ability to work long hours with extended periods on feet

Background

The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to high school completion or partial high school with specialized training. The person can read text of medium difficulty requiring an understanding of basic concepts. He/she may be expected to write text intended to communicate non-technical information and, display command of spelling, grammar, punctuation and basic composition. People working at this level can be required to have certain specialized skills, and be able to comprehend somewhat complicated procedures.

Directly/indirectly related work experience representing continuous learning and required for someone to perform this job competently is up to one month.

Ongoing work assignments typically have clearly defined goals. The incumbent’s education, training, and previous experience ensure work assignments are successfully carried out because he/she understands what is expected, as well as the best approach to take.
