Clinic Receptionist/Clerk Interpreter – Ref #2023-039
The Receptionist/Clerk interpreter will be responsible for reception duties including welcoming registration of clients of the Northern Clinic as well as performing a variety of clerical support services. Assisting the First Nations clients through communication in their first dialect. Providing interpreting services between Health Care Professionals and clients at the Northern Clinic.
The Northern Clinic Receptionist/Clerk Interpreter will be directly accountable to the Patient Navigator
Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent
- Medical office assistant certification preferred
- Knowledge of business office procedures
- Ability to work with scheduling and medical information software programs
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to work as a team member
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture and issues relevant to delivery of health care in the Sioux Lookout Zone
- Strong communication, organization, scheduling and time management skills in dealing with patients, families, peers and health care professionals
- Interpret information from medical staff to patients in preferred First Nations dialect
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Organizing charts for physician clinics
- Acknowledge arriving patients in a prompt and helpful manner
- Booking, coordinating and scheduling patient appointments with the ability to prioritize appointments according to patient needs and physician clinic schedules
- Overseeing the waiting area
- Coordinating patient movements between departments
- Informs patient problems and/or irregularities to nurse managers or registered nurse
- Operating the appointment clinic switchboard by responding to incoming calls, taking and relaying messages, communicating information and responding to emergency calls according to established procedures
- Interpret verbal information provided by physicians, support staff, visitors and community members
- Explaining preparations necessary for diagnostic tests and/or treatments ordered by the physician
- Actively empower patients to participate in their health care decision by providing information and teaching in their first language
- Prepare and deliver requisitions
- Label and deliver laboratory specimens
- Transcribe physicians orders
- Perform routine clerical tasks such as copying, faxing, filing
- Handling of sensitive/confidential material strictly in confidence in accordance with office policy\
- Ordering and stocking of supplies
- Provide orientation as required
