Safe Communities

Safe Communities focuses on creating a safer environment for community members, recognizing its impact on health and well-being. Safe Communities programs and services aim to prevent injuries, promote health, and enhance community resilience. Environmental Concerns addresses safe drinking water, food safety, and hazards like contaminants, mold, and pests. It offers education, inspections, and recommendations. Preventing Injuries targets road, water, fire, fall, self-harm, and sports-related injuries through policy development and health promotion. Emergency Preparedness supports communities in developing response plans, building capacity, and responding to emergencies including infectious diseases outbreaks. Safe Communities values Connection to the Land, emphasizing the deep relationship Indigenous People have with their natural environment.

Services

  • Support communities with developing emergency response plans and various hazard-specific plans.
  • Conduct simulation exercises to test response plans and procedures.
  • Deliver emergency management training at various levels (IMS 100, IMS 200, IMS 300, and BEM).
  • Provide health promotion materials and services on topics related to environmental health, preventing injuries, emergency preparedness.
  • Provide fire safety education to schools and communities.
  • Provide public education on safe drinking water, food safety, and health hazards such as environmental contaminants, mold, pests, sewage, and air quality concerns.

Advocate for and support the development of policies aimed at creating safer communities.
