Social Worker

The Social Worker is one of the Raising our Children team members in the Approaches to Community Wellbeing. The Social Worker works alongside the other members of the Raising our Children team to support building healthy relationships in youth, families, and communities as well as building the capacity of community-based workers to support the development of healthy relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Social workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work required, Master's Degree preferred.
  • A lifelong learner who is highly conscientious and committed to a high quality of evidence- based practice and ongoing professional learning
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with all members of the Approaches to Community Wellbeing, community based staff and community members
  • Skilled in program development, research, report writing and must have computer literacy skills
  • Experience and understanding of First Nations culture, history, the geographic realities, health priorities and social conditions within remote First Nations’ communities
  • Experience of having worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, internal and external to the organization to achieve successful outcomes through excellent relationship building skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain respectful, cooperative working relationships with First Nations people, communities, service workers and health care providers
  • Ability to work well independently and with teams and to exercise good judgment
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements; to perform the physical demands of the job; demonstrate initiative, and with excellent judgment and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to take initiative, be adaptable, multi task, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced and ever changing environment
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Experience working in a First Nations communities and ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset

 

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY                                                     

  1. Work with the Raising our Children team to develop health promotion materials and messaging around self-esteem, body image, and healthy relationships (including parenting and anti-bullying). 
  2. Work with the Raising our Children team to develop and implement trainings and resources for community workers to support them in the implementation of programming to support healthy relationships and positive emotional health.
  3. Work with the Regional Wellness Response Program staff to develop programming materials and messages where applicable to support families recovering from addiction and promote family wellness.
  4. Provide ongoing mentorship and support to community based workers to promote healthy relationships, and support communities in developing their own programs and approaches to promoting healthy relationships and positive mental and emotional health.
  5. Provide presentations, workshops, radio shows, and activities in communities which promote and/or teach about healthy relationships and strong family connections.
  6. Identify and develop potential regional and/or community level partnerships in support of healthy relationships and positive emotional health.
  7. Provide support and guidance to communities to building programming, services, and teachings to promote strong family dynamics to support healthy parents raising healthy children.
  8. Provide expert advice, technical consultation, and continuing education to SLFNHA staff, key stakeholders, and communities relating to healthy relationships and mental and emotional health.
  9. Represent SLFNHA and Approaches to Community Wellbeing on relevant working groups and/or at relevant meetings.
  10. All other duties as assigned
