TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL PROGRAM

The Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program was established in the early 1990’s by Medical Services Branch of Health Canada due to the high prevalence of tuberculosis in Sioux Lookout Zone First Nation communities.  It was then transferred to the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority on April 1, 1997.

The SLFNHA TB Program utilizes the best/promising practices in tuberculosis control and management, as outlined by the current "Canadian Tuberculosis Standards, 6th Edition" and "The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care - Tuberculosis Protocol 2006."

The Program Mandate is to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis in
Sioux Lookout Zone First Nations Communities through surveillance, case and
contact management, education, awareness and prevention.
