HISTORY
The Sioux Lookout First Nations
Health Authority (SLFNHA) was established in March 1990 as a
result of the Scott, McKay and Bain Health Panel Report and was
mandated to be responsible for health service delivery and
client advocacy.
Prior to September 1995, certain
non-medical health services, such as transportation,
accommodation and translation services were contracted out and
administered under other organizations. In March 1993,
direction was given by NAN Chiefs Resolution 93/16, to establish
a co-ordination and communication system that ensures that such
organizations that deliver these services involve and work in
co-operation with SLFNHA.
SLFNHA developed a Comprehensive
Client Services Department (CSD) Proposal and was approved by
NAN Resolution 94/67 on November 30, 1994 for submission to
Medical Services Branch for negotiation. The proposal was
submitted on January 1995. Approval was received during the
summer of 1995 and the implementation took effect on September
1995.
GOAL
The one Major goal of the Client Services
Department is:
"To enhance the
quality of non-medical services to First Nations Clients."
SERVICES
It is the policy of the CSD
that prospective clients and/or escorts must be "Prior Approved"
by Non-Insured Health Services (NIHS) before receiving services
from the CSD. The client and/or escort must have an appointment
letter which contains a proper "Prior Approval" number issued by
the Sioux Lookout Zone NIHS Office.
