CHILD AND FAMILY INTERVENTION SERVICES
 

Client Groups:

Include the 0 – 6 age group, which is considered Priority as well as Children 7 – 16 who are in the care of Tikinagan Child and Family Services. Youth age 7-18 years of age, Family files are open when a number of family members are receiving services in the same location. Youth who are suicidal and considered to be at high risk to self harm.

 

Types of Services:

On-going one-on-one counseling, Family counseling, Specialty Clinic providing Psychological and Psychiatric Assessments, Telepsychiatry is also available to high risk clients who need urgent assessments Art and Play Therapy. Crisis Intervention, Debriefing. Assessments for the 0-6 age group are provided by one of the Early Intervention Workers who has partnered with the Healthy Babies/Healthy Children in some of the communities. Consultation is available to staff and individuals who require assistance and no other support is available. Traditional based activities such as Sweat Lodge Ceremonies, sharing circles, feasts, alcohol related issues and Naming ceremonies and Grief cycle.

Case management for Psychiatric, Psychological and Art Therapy Clinics at the community level.

 

Workshops are delivered to communities that request specific Issues ranging from Parenting Skills, Anger Management, Grief and Communication Skills. A lot of programming is provided through the Community Schools for Issues affecting Children and youth.

 

Support System: includes individual supervision and support via telephone and visits into each of the Community Based Offices. Case Reviews with Tikinagan Child and Family Services, Staff Meetings in Sioux Lookout. Quarterly Staff Retreat and Debriefings for all staff, during these weeks Training on different Topics is provided.

 

Training: currently available to staff depending on the Workshops and Training Opportunities available in Sioux Lookout, A Trainer has been hired and a Training Work plan is being developed for all staff. A number of staff are seeking to attain higher education on their own through distant education.

By the Ministry of Community & Social Services, Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

There are 6 community based staff:
 

- Aaroland - covering Martin Falls, Allan Water

 

- Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug - covering Wapekeka, Wunnimun, and Fort Severn

           

- Neskantaga - covering Fort Hope, Summer Beaver, Webequie

         

- Weagamow - covering Bearskin Lake, Sachigo Lake, and Cat Lake

          

- Sandy Lake catchments area includes Deer Lake, North Spirit Lake, and Keewaywin.

 

- Sioux Lookout with catchments area including Kingfisher Lake, Weagamow Lake, Pikangikum and Kasabonika
