MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR TRAINEE
Full Time Position

Location: Mishkeegogamang, Ontario

 


Under the direction of the Education Coordinator this position will attend the pre-health training offered at the Oshki-Pimache-O-Win campus in Thunder Bay beginning January 2009.  The training provided will enable the incumbent to become part of a mental health team in their home community of Mishkeegogamang.  Day to day supervision will be provided at the community level.

Admission Requirements for Oshki:

·        Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED);

·        Completion of another Post-secondary credential or Mature Student
Status (requires successful completion of a mature student test).

Qualifications:

·         Some experience in a mental health or health services environment;

·         Written communication skills at a post secondary level a definite asset;

·         Excellent organizational skills;

·         Good time management skills;

·         Ability to work independently and in team situations.

Other:

·         Preference will be given to applicant that have self awareness of the impacts
of addictions, colonization etc on mental health issues in the north;

·         Be able to examine self and issues related to addictions;

·         Regular attendance and participation in the Oshki Program;

o   Includes on-campus and independent work supported by video
web conference.

·         Ensures homework is completed within the required deadlines as assigned
by Oshki instructors;

·         Regular weekly communication with the Education Coordinator;

o   Includes progress reports;

o   Identifies any problems or issues with program.

·         Attend other training as required;

·         Attend regular debriefing session as part of the NODIN team;

·         Participates/Attends any video/web conferencing, telehealth or
telepsychiatry sessions as requested by SLFNHA;

·         Attends and participates in Nodin Child and Family Intervention Services
training and in-service training sessions.
